About

Word Dances: Poetry in Motion blends poetry with modern dance, music, and art, creating a moving performance that touches your heart through words, sight, movement, and sound. The narration is by dancer-poet Katie Bruckbauer of Fargo using selections from her new poetry book, Time to Soar: Word Dances and Bird Songs for Every Season, illustrated by Mary Jo Savageau of Bismarck. Dances were choreographed and are performed by Bruckbauer, Barb Wieland of Park Rapids, MN, and a small ensemble of other dancers.

Together, the poetry and dance take you on a spiritual journey through the seasons of life, with all its messiness, mirth, melancholy, mystery, and miracle. Birds express emotions, both whimsical and profound, and bring messages of hope, joy, love, peace and healing. Both the performance and the book are relevant for anyone working through hardship, grief, or loss of any kind; for those searching for hope in our strife-filled world; or for anyone who might delight in raising their awareness of and celebrating the birds around us. Word Dances: Poetry in Motion is appropriate for all ages; recommended for 10+ due to the depth of some of the subject matter and one use of the word "sh*t."
